"Know, Grow and Show Your GRIT! Self-Discovery Mad "Know, Grow and Show Your GRIT! Self-Discovery Made Simple" is a self-help guide founded on the author's own GRIT Growth Guide © and personal development programs.

Schepmyer's GRIT is displayed for ease of reference as a compass with each direction assigned a letter [G, R, I, T] and, unlike many other self-help growth guides, the words that flesh out the acronym are filled in by the individual themselves.

This is the first time I have ever read a book where a reader is tasked with this, but it makes absolute sense.

From here, Schepmyer breaks the entry by phase: one, Know Your GRIT; two, Grow Your GRIT; and three, Show Your GRIT. Following this, readers are prompted with anecdotes, stories, and additional resources to help reaffirm the course...and stay on it.

I love a good guide on growth but have grown accustomed to many of them recycling some version of the same idea. I mean, how many times can someone reinvent the wheel? Enter Know, Grow and Show Your GRIT! by Haze Schepmyer! What a fantastic guide!

I was most moved by reading the story of a not-yet-forty healthcare worker whose GRIT compass included Grace, Resilience, Initiate, and Thought. Her father's mental health issues and suicide attempts are just so incredibly courageous to share, and the way she pieces together her life and, ultimately, creates a new one of her own with her husband is beautiful and authentic and inspiring.

It is remarkable how her GRIT compass and what the reasoning behind her words mean to her. After reading her story, I actually wrote down an affirmation from the quote her father loved: “…I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul.” Very highly recommended.

"Know, Grow and Show your GRIT! Self-Discovery Mad "Know, Grow and Show your GRIT! Self-Discovery Made Simple" is a work of non-fiction in the self-help and motivational subgenres aimed at people seeking to understand where their strengths lie and how to utilize them fully.

By encouraging introspection about the things that define you and give you strength, then sharing the journeys of a diverse set of people on their paths, the book aims to give readers the tools they need to find their unique strengths and learn how to play these to achieve their goals.

This book represents an excellent approach to self-help by showcasing the skills a person needs to look within themselves and define the talents they already have. Rather than learning new tricks, Haze Schepmyer pushes the reader to fully appreciate and utilize the arsenal of resources they’ve already cultivated during their lifetime.

It’s a sound tactic and one that is sure to yield results in the reader as they learn to face the hurdles life puts in front of them as their authentic selves and define their terms for success.

I particularly enjoyed the case studies of a varied range of people who have fought to achieve their goals using this method. Each one was inspirational in its own right, but as readers peruse the stories, there are sure to be one or two that particularly resonate.

Know, Grow and Show your GRIT! is a must-have for people who don’t believe that they already have the tools they need for success and are ready to be proven wrong.

With her GRIT Growth Guide ©, Haze Schepmyer is o With her GRIT Growth Guide ©, Haze Schepmyer is on a mission to help people discover "the opportunities that often come with challenges."

Her book, Know, Grow and Show Your GRIT!, contains questions and thoughts that function as tools for candid self-reflection and reaching within to discover the bountiful resources that exist internally.

The book starts with a guide and process that nudges readers to know, grow, and show their GRIT and proceeds to reveal the stories of 16 individuals who practiced this process.

Prepare to be inspired by the interesting and diverse characters in Know, Grow and Show Your GRIT!—whether it's the professor and institute director who built her tenacity and gregariousness by playing women's football or the first-generation Canadian who finds she gets the most joy through giving.

The deeply introspective and carefully selected questions in Know, Grow and Show Your GRIT! helped me realize that I had more strength and resilience than I realized. In fact, I felt much more energized knowing that a great source of power exists within me.

The book's unique feature is that it reveals the level of ease encountered and the exact values that different individuals discovered on their journey of self-discovery. This process of revealing others' internal and specific struggles is quite encouraging and uplifting.

Know, Grow and Show Your GRIT! is a sort of supportive community with friends who make you feel like you're not alone, with their captivating and enlightening stories. I love what Haze Schepmyer is doing with her GRIT Growth Guide ©, and I believe it contains a mightily efficient, ground-breaking formula for making the world better, one individual at a time.

Do you have that thing about yourself that you hop Do you have that thing about yourself that you hope no one notices or at least no one will acknowledge if they do notice it?

Have you ever had the experience where you can’t unhear something someone said even though they swear that the way you heard it is NOT the way they meant it?

What happens when these two collide???

We hear what we fear 🥺.

I don’t get embarrassed very often but I was mortified a few weeks ago when a friend told me that I remind him of an ox 🐂. I immediately thought he was calling me out on my size because I’m very solid, very strong and I’m always the bulkiest, sweatiest female on the field or in a class🥵. My size is the last thing I want people to notice 😬.

As soon as my friend saw the expression on my face, he looked right into my eyes and said that he didn’t mean whatever I thought he meant. That’s a big deal because he is not a fan of eye contact and he knows I love eye contact!

He said he just meant that I’m fit but my ego insists upon telling me that his comment MUST have a negative connotation. I haven’t been able to look at him for weeks and I’m very excited for the day this awkward feeling that I’m bringing onto myself goes far, far away.

Until then, I’ve been relying on ¾ of my GRIT to get me through 👍🏾. Gratitude, Resilience and Time have been key for me; Imagination has been my worst enemy!

Moving from my GRIT doesn’t mean I’ll move quickly, but it reduces the odds of me getting stuck in the yuck.

How often do you hear what you fear instead of what was actually said?

How can your GRIT get you through?

Let’s chat!

“Sampling opens the door to serendipity.” Thi “Sampling opens the door to serendipity.”

This quote from Angela Duckworth is based on the Paramecium Principle which she shared during her commencement speech at Penn a few weeks ago:

Try something new – if you like it, keep going, and if not, change course.

When it comes to challenging situations or relationships, have you been stuck trying the same thing and getting the same results (or lack of results) 🤔?

What's possible if you sample a new approach to navigating obstacles 🗺? Change course by making the time to know, grow and show your GRIT!

1 - @angezed is one of my friends from elementary school and she reached out to me yesterday because she heard “Dancing on the Ceiling” which reminded her of a routine our dance club performed to that song in the 1980s 🎵🎶`🎵.

2 - Andrea and I were two of Luxton’s Lovelies but we did join Miss Lightfoot’s class for dance parties!

3 - Reminiscing about that school dance routine reminded me of a dance that Andrea and I made with two of our friends to “Calendar Girl” by Neil Sedaka 📆. I still remember ALL the moves from our dance routine so I made this video of the chorus for Andrea 🤣😂🤣.

4 - I had nooooo intention of sharing this video with anyone other than Andrea but it makes for a good 20-second stretch if you’ve been sitting all day. Yes, I totally snort at the end 🤦🏾‍♀️.

Did you know that every episode of the Grow My GRI Did you know that every episode of the Grow My GRIT podcast includes a worksheet with reflection questions 🤔?

Consider these thoughts after you check out our chat with @e.w.huntergeorge (the link is in my bio)...

1 - Hunter shared that he’s lost more races than he’s won in his career and he’s intentional about learning from every competition regardless of where he’s placed! Where in your life are you striving to be first? What can you learn from being last?

2 - When do you prefer to work alone? If you look at the relationships associated with this situation, when might “better together” apply? We can save ourselves a lot of time and fast-track our growth by learning from people in our community (e.g., their mistakes, successes, thoughts, choices, experiences).

3 - Hunter talked about his initial misconception that feeling tired, heavy, exhausted and drained were the signs of a good workout. Then he realized that the best workouts leave you energized and not empty! Where in your life are you trying hard instead of trying easy?

4 - Hunter spoke quite highly of Greg Everett’s four Cs (Character, Capability, Capacity, Commitment). Which one is most closely aligned with your GRIT?

Bonus #1 - Is there a sentence or thought you wish you could unhear because it makes you feel as though you could/should change something about your way of being or your way of doing things in the world?

Bonus #2 – Did a question you’ve been avoiding come up in this episode? How will you answer the question if you’re ready?

1 – I’m so grateful to @flanisan for these customized ceramic coasters by @coastercreationsyqg celebrating love, music, bass clefs, sea glass, peace, luck, happiness, rocks and driftwood!

2 - I’m truly blessed when it comes to receiving personalized presents 😊.

3 – The bass clef is my favourite clef when I play piano at home and in the handbell choir at church 🎹. Interestingly, there’s a treble clef emoji but no bass clef emoji 🤔.

4 – The lowest handbell in our Malmark set at church is C4 and I dream of playing the infamous C2 someday. It’s a HUGE handbell and I’ve only ever seen one in a video 🤩.

5 – I love the idea of being left-handed so I taught myself how to write with my left hand in grade 9 and I’m still ambidextrous to this day 🤪.

6 - Music and movement are innate languages for me; both are deeply embedded in my bones! People reliably comment on how much time I spend dancing, singing and humming even when they can’t hear the music 🎵🎶🎵.

It’s #WhimsicalWednesday and there’s so much G It’s #WhimsicalWednesday and there’s so much GRIT to go around!

A few weeks ago, I co-facilitated another GRIT workshop at a centre for treatment and recovery where services focus on addiction and mental health. In this setting, my 1.5-hour conversation with the group is geared toward knowing their GRIT and using it to eliminate impaired driving 🚫.

I’ve just been told that several clients from the session used growing then showing their GRIT as themes for their self-reflections and individual activities in the weeks following the workshop 🤩. As a Facilitator and an Author, it’s soooo encouraging to hear that people are interacting with my GRIT framework and incorporating it weeks later 👍🏾.

Here’s how these participants defined their GRIT:

Give - Reflect – Initiate – Teach

Give – Recognize – Investigate – Think

Gratitude – Rehearse – Inform – Talk/Tell

Give/Grab – Remember – Initiate – Talk/Tell

Give/Grab – Recognize – Interrupt – Talk/Tell

Give/Grab – Generate – Recognize – Inquire – Truth – Think

Give/Grab - Rules and Responsibilities – Investigate – Telephone

Get With It – Rehabilitate – Intervention – Integrate – Tolerance (none)

The definitions of GRIT vary but participants agree that looking at how you navigate a specific obstacle provides insights into patterns of behaviours and thoughts that will help you approach other challenges.

How can your community benefit from GRIT? Let’s chat!

How often do you say “It’s not that bad”? How often do you say “It’s not that bad”?

How would you measure ‘that bad’ if you really sat down and thought about it 🤔?

I’ve had some interesting conversations in the last week about the importance of labeling what ‘that bad’ looks like BEFORE you get there so you can hold yourself accountable to your own standards and know when it’s time to make different choices.

When you don’t have a definition for ‘that bad’, how do you know when you’re there and things really are ‘that bad’? Without a reference point set in advance, your line may keep sliding further and further toward your worst-case scenario 📉.

If this line of thinking makes you go hmmmm, send me a message so we can chat about using your GRIT as your anchor when it’s time to change course 🗺!
