What’s Reinforcing Your Resolution?

I can’t think of the last time I made a resolution at the start of a new year but I decided to create one and adopt it for 2022. My resolution will help me to start growing the area of my business that I’ve neglected since launching my company. This year, I’m ready to raise the bar!

So, what’s my resolution for 2022???

It’s to embrace and excel at online marketing 😬

Anyone who knows me understands that this might be one of the hardest things I’ve asked myself to do in a very long time. So, it looks like I’ll be relying on my GRIT again and we’ll see how I do over the next 11 months!

Maintaining my resolution will be hard but I’ve come up with a resolution-reinforcing reminder that I can recall and recite to help guide me along the way. My reminder is actually a combination of two quotes, one of which I’ve heard hundreds of times and one that I just discovered in a book on simple wisdom.

Quote 1: A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step – Lao Tzu.

Quote 2: It is always possible to approach a goal by a detour – Theodor Reik.

So, my resolution-reinforcing reminder is: The journey to a goal which seems a thousand miles away begins with a few steps and there will be several detours along the way (both expected and unexpected).

When I started Gritty Guru Company in 2019, my primary intention was to connect with as many GRITizens as possible and I’ve always felt that engaging in-person is most meaningful. Although I believe that this is still true, I must also recognize where we are as a society and connect with more GRITizens online.

This internet-based detour on my path to engaging with GRITizens will take the form of increased online presence for my book and my company this year. I can’t even believe I just typed that because I actively avoid the internet whenever possible! However, it’s been almost 11 months since the virtual book launch for “Know, Grow and Show Your GRIT: Self-Discovery Made Simple” and I’ve accepted that there is little hope for hosting an old-fashioned book launch (i.e., large, in-person gathering with food, mixing, mingling and book signings) any time soon.

Amazingly, the talented Publishing Consultant who helped me launch my book reached out earlier this month with the names of several book clubs whose members might be interested in discussing my book. After I follow-up on this incredible lead, my next steps are toward increasing my online presence across major book platforms such as Good Reads and Book Bub.

To give myself some credit and honour the steps I’ve already taken, I’m counting this blog, the Grow My GRIT podcast and @growmygrit as steps 1, 2 and 3 on my journey towards a stronger online presence. My intention for these three initiatives has always been to get people thinking about their ability to do hard things and ensuring that they develop a firm understanding of the strengths/resources they reliably bring to challenging situations. This year, I’m going to use my blog to inspire social media posts and my podcast now includes worksheets for people who want to do more than just listen.

What journey of a thousand miles will you begin in 2022? What are you stepping toward? What are you stepping away from? What type of growth would you like to see this year and where would you like to see it (e.g., home, school, work, rest, or play)? What would you like to see from me from in terms of an online presence?
